Autumn Adventures

Fun and Easy Activities for the School Holidays

Autumn school holidays are a great time to spend quality time with your kids. Here are some fun ideas for activities you can do together:

Outdoor Activities

1. Nature walks and hikes: Explore the beautiful autumn foliage on a hike or nature walk

We love Tanes track, a 15-minute walk that leads up to the old rail tunnel, but there is a 1-hour loop option or a 3-minute stroll from the top carpark option too.

2. Visit a park or playground: Pack a picnic and spend the day at a local park or playground Cleary Street Playground in Lower Hutt was a favourite for when we were learning boundaries- fully fenced and quiet! For the older kids, Battle Hill is a personal fav for a picnic - they have a free gas BBQ, eels to feed/watch and you can have a campfire too.

3. Go on a bike ride: Take advantage of the cooler weather and go on a bike ride

Harcourt park has a great mini road/scooter park and is a quieter area with no traffic close by, easy to park by the swing bridge.

4. Visit the beach

Enjoy Eastbourne Wharf in autumn sunshine and dip your toes into the water if you're keen. Eastbourne playground is next door to the outdoor swimming pool and has a great fenced toddler area as well as older kids play equipment.

Indoor Activities

1. Visit a museum or art gallery: Learn something new together

2. Check out your local library: Borrowing 'new' DVDs and books is exciting AND many have great play areas and an array of toys

3. Arts and crafts: Get creative together - 'paint' the fence with water, use autumn foliage to create a masterpiece

4. Go swimming: The Stokes Valley pool is great for kids of all ages with a sloped kids area and a slide for the adventurous

Other Fun Ideas

1. Host a movie night: Pick your favourite films and have a cozy movie night together

2. Cook or bake together: We love colour pancakes with fruit

3. Play indoor games: Have a family game day

4. Wash the car: It might even get clean but play with bubbles and the hose (a great wet weather activity to put on jackets for)

5. Build a hut for a tea party: Bring Ted, dolly and all your other friends!

I hope these ideas help you plan some fun activities with your kids during the autumn school holidays!
